Intimate care policy
To protect both myself and my children I have written this policy to make parents aware of how intimate care will be managed for their child:
• I will treat your child with dignity and respect and ensure your child's privacy - appropriate to your child's age and situation
• I will involve your child as far as possible in their own intimate care
• I will try and avoid doing things for your child that they can do alone
• I will let your child help if they wish to do so
This is important for tasks such as removing clothes, washing private parts (if a child has had an accident) or wiping bottoms
• I will be responsive to your child's reactions
• I will ask your child if it is ‘ok to do it this way?'
• I will ask your child how ‘mummy does it'
• I will make sure the intimate care I give is as consistent as possible
• I will encourage your child to have a positive image of their own body
