Emergency evacuation procedure

In order to keep both the children and me safe I have developed the following procedure to evacuate my house in case of an emergency.

An emergency may be the result of a fire, flooding, gas leak etc.

The children will regularly practice this procedure and so they should not be alarmed in the event that it is needed in a real situation. The practice will happen on different days of the week and at different times so that all children who attend the setting have chance to practice. The details of these practices will be recorded in the evacuation log.

  • Sound the alarm (this is a whistle that will be kept in the middle room/living room).

  • Evacuate the children using the safest and nearest exit available. This will either be via the front door located in kitchen or via the conservatory door and through the ally down the side of the house.

  • Take: attendance record, contact numbers, mobile phone.

  • Assemble across the road in front of the house at the agreed meeting point

  • Contact the emergency services.

  • Comfort and reassure the children.

  • Arrange a safe place for the children to go until the parents can collect them. This will be discussed at our first meeting.

  • Follow any instructions given by the emergency services.

  • Do not return to the building until it is deemed safe by the emergency services.

There will be a fire blanket in the setting in a visible and easily accessible area.

A copy of the fire evacuation procedure as well as a diagram will be present on the notice board.
